Skin Like Iron / Nails Split (2012)

Skin Like Iron play melodic hardcore punk, not dissimilar to bands like Tragedy. Their side of this split stands out for me, stellar material and some of the best of this style. Nails play tough and heavy metallic-tinged hardcore punk including a few mosh-worthy breakdowns.

Viimeinen Kolonna - Luonnoton Poistuma (2011)

Another band I've posted before but equally worthy of your time is Viimeinen Kolonna from Finland. They play hardcore punk and they're good so grab this one too.

Cülo - Life is Vile...And So Are We (2011)

I've posted some Cülo stuff before, and if you haven't taken notice of them then now is the time. This compilation has stuff from their EPs, plus I guess some other stuff or whatever, but just listen to it. Thrashing hardcore punk and party times. Straight-up fucking awesome.

Filthy Hate - Hatred Stench Corpse

Whats this? Well, its a very cool little thrashy Japanese hardcore demo just released a couple of months back. Band name and music is totally awesome. Fun and energetic enough to get a mosh/circle pit started in your bedroom or living room, so do it.

Viimeinen Kolonna - Onnellisuus Ahdistaa

Another Finnish hardcore punk EP! The almost Tom G Warrior-esque short grunts that the vocalist does during some of the songs are great!

Vaaska - Ruido Hasta La Muerte

One of my favourite hardcore/punk records from last year, along with the Kriegshog LP. These Texan dudes play a raw d-beat style of hardcore, with a latino american feel (the lyrics are in Spanish).

Night Hag

From Radelaid, the town that brought us Craterface, Captain Cleanoff, and Space Bong (among others), this is Night Hag. Some decent, thrashy, dark-melodic hardcore.

Enjoy

Herätys - S/T

I saw this band in Sweden at Punk Illegal festival this year and they slayed. Swedish Totalitar worship, what more needs to be said.

Hardcore Unlawful Assembly

Japanese hardcore/punk rules. Thats all there is to it. It seems that with almost whatever they do, the Japanese are always one step ahead with craziness, and hence generally rule more than their overseas counterparts that they are (often) emulating. This compilation contains some of the most ruling bands from the 80s Jap hc/punk scene. GISM needs no introduction, anyone that is in any way familiar with the Jap scene should worship these maniacs. Zouo is another of my favourites, the tracks here are really good as well, up there with the awesomeness of "The Final Agony" EP. The rest of the bands are great too, basically this comp just rules so get it.

This is why.....

...we can't have nice things!

Here you will find a demo for a band I was in briefly: John Laws. Alas, it didn't get very far, but I half hope it may be resurrected in the next year or so, we shall see. For fans of crusty punk and grind. This features the skills of yours truly on vox and Brad Smith (Super Fun Happy Slide, Holy Boner, etc.) on drums, bass, and bass.

Trivia: this was recorded early 2006, on a 36 degree (celsius) day. Brad had an epic hangover from the previous nights festivities, but still managed to nail the drums for each song in one take per song. Also, all drum takes were recorded using a pair of Sing Star wireless mics. DIY or GTFO!

Finally, after immense slackness on my part, here is Part 2 of my Beanflipper posts; Garden Variety Manic Depressant. Whereas Total Dysfunctional Collapse is more the 'all-out-hardcore' album (as far as one can say that Beanflipper were like that), this is more of a drawn-out, textured album (see previous comment). It even has guest vocals courtesy of the might Bucky, Rick's predecessor as the band's frontman.

That said, this is the Beanflipper album that I find myself listening, and singing along to, the most. It's sad that they only got to release two albums (& one EP), but Garden Variety.... was a great way to go out. Enjoy

Cut to the chase....

Part II of the Fallout uploads is finally here.

The album today is Another Week in Jonestown, which is the Fallout side of a split 12" with Swedish punkers Accursed. It more or less follows on from the slab of awesomeness that was Louder Than Words but the songs have a lot more force behind them, and you can hear the overall sound of the band is getting harsher.

So, I hope you enjoy this album as much as I do, and as much as the last post. Please keep in mind that again, this is a low quality rip of a simple vinyl-to-cd rip/burn, so while it may not sound fantastic, it still has more than enough quality to sound good.

Land of Decay

Beanflipper. Another fantastic band from Melbourne's 90's era. Unlike Fallout, I had the fortune to see these gents on a number of occasions, as they reformed around 2005, for a little over a year.

I'm working on bringing you all three of their CDs, and, if I can track it down, I hope to eventually put the demo up here. For today, I'm posting Total Dysfunctional Collapse, what would have been most peoples' introduction to the band way back in 1995 (yep, it's THAT old).

For fans of thrash, hardcore, metal (as a generic term) and grind. Enjoy!

Profit Ain't Punk (or is it?)

Allow me to present to you one of the bands that started my love of all things fast in music. Fallout. I am aware there've been quite a few bands of that name over the years, but the one I refer to was an early to late 1990's Melbourne hardcore band. Arguably one of the best, these guys were around the same time as Mindsnare, but not quite as long as them. Certainly not long enough for me to see them play, anyway.

What I have for you today is a poor quality rip of a rip. From 10" vinyl onto CD and finally into 128kb .wma files. But it's not as bad as it sounds. I strongly recommend this band to anyone and everyone who is into punk, hardcore, even grind (of all sorts), and I hope to bring you more of their stuff in future.

Also, a big thanks goes to Kieren Tyrell, former Fallout vocalist, for granting permission for me to post their stuff on here.

Wasted Time Demo 05

Found this demo and thought I would share. Can't find much information on it - Discogs.com has their first release as their self-titled 7". Anyway, this is some old-fashioned hardcore from Richmond, Virginia. Recently released an LP called "Futility", which is a follow up to the equally great EP "No Shore" in '07. There is also a compilation called "And So It Goes" which collects all material from said releases as well as their S/T 7" (not the same as this demo). Go buy their stuff.
