Anna Gardeck - Bondage Women

Excellent industrial, thematically focusing on fetishism, female domination and bondage which makes this one of the most interesting releases in the genre that I have heard in quite some time. Highly recommended.

Old One - s/t

Here's some traditionally tinged doom with a few modern tweaks by a two-piece (drums, bass) from the US. Great fuzzed-out trad-doom riffs and some grooving bass solos. So grab a beer, sit back, relax, light one up, and enjoy the fuzz.

Siamese Twins - Demo (2011)

Here is a new band playing catchy post-punk with a gothic feel akin to The Cure. There is a shoegaze edge to the sound as well. One of the best demos I've heard this year, give it a listen.

Alrakis - Omega Cen

This is awesome. Atmospheric, ambient black metal dedicated to space, constellations and galaxies. Whoa. How could this not be incredible? Obviously for fans of Darkspace but I actually think this may be better.

Roses Never Fade - Fade To Black

Dark neo-folk project featuring members from multiple countries, including Dwid Hellion (Integrity), Thorsten Wilhelm, Mathew Shack, Nick Fiction, Stephanie VH, and Adami. This is surprisingly great, sitting somewhere between Death in June, Agalloch and :Of the Wand and the Moon:.

Nuit Noire - The Gigantic Hideout (2011)

New album of bizarre fairy worshipping black metal!

WE LOVE NIGHT AND FAIRIES
NOT YOUR ROTTING FLESH

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Preterite - Pillar of Winds (2011)

Preterite is a collaboration between Geneviève Beaulieu (Menace Ruine) and James Hamilton. Expect nothing like Menace Ruine however, as this project is a mix of folk and psychadelic drone with Geneviève's unique voice being the clear centrepiece. Released on Handmade Birds, which seems to be a great label that is putting out some quality releases at the moment.

Arctic Flowers - Reveries (2011)

Catchy and awesome punk Portland, OR. Highly recommended.

Carissa's Wierd - Tucson (2011)

How did I not know about this sooner?! 2 new songs from one of my favourite bands ever, Carissa's Wierd. Their first new recordings in over 7 years. These songs are so good. So good. As if they could have been anything less. Amazing.

Interment - Into The Crypts Of Blasphemy (2010)

There are so many bands nowadays ripping off the Entombed - Left Hand Path formula, but who can complain when its easily one of the best death metal albums of all time?! Here is another fine example, Interment deliver death metal old school swedish style, which is the best way! So if you don't like it, stop complaining poser and go back to your lifeless, boring, technical garbage! Hail old school Swedish death metal!

Stresscase - Cut Me Off (2011)

Fast and angry thrashcore/hardcore punk/powerviolence from LA. This shit rules and will probably blow up and be huge pretty soon (at least I am predicting) so get on it now!!!

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Alaric - S/T 7" (2010)

Alaric is a deathrock band featuring members from UK Subs, Drain the Sky, The Enemies, Noothgrush and Dead and Gone. If you like this then you should also check out Funeral Parade, their demo is some more great gloomy punk, deathrock, post-punk type stuff - think of Rudimentary Peni, early Christian Death, etc.

Antediluvian - Through The Cervix Of Hawaah (2011)

Well, here it is. I said this would be the metal release of the year and I'm here to say it does live up to those expectations. Do not waste any more time, get this now.

Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise

Essential. The beginning of death/doom metal in the early 90s, along with Peaceville labelmates Anathema and My Dying Bride. Shame that they didn't keep with this style.

Monday, November 14, 2011

Midnight - Satanic Royalty (2011)

New album from punk/metal maniacs Midnight!!! Arrrgh it fucking rules!!! Drink beer and raise hell!!!

The Devil's Blood - The Thousandfold Epicentre (2011)

This stuff always seems popular when I post it and they are indeed a good band, so why not post their latest album, eh?

Krömosom / Isterismo - Hardcore Pollution Split (2011)

Split between hardcore punk bands Krömosom from Australia and Isterismo from Japan.

War All The Time - s/t

Saw these lads back in 2008 when they toured down here. The play very straight-up D-beat, and even feature a former member of Doom.

For anyone who likes Wolpack, Doom, Discharge, or any other D-beat bands.

War All The Time

Reculsa - The Anticonscience (2011)

Reclusa mix of a whole lot of stuff to surprisingly great effect, including death/doom, industrial, ambient and noise. I liked this description from the Crucial Blast website: "It's like a doomdeath album being played at half speed while someone splices in Throbbing Gristle and Wolf Eyes". Its difficult to draw reference points but if you like diSEMBOWELMENT, Godflesh, Gnaw Their Tongues or the aforementioned Wolf Eyes then you should enjoy this. An incredibly heavy and original album, check it out.

Winters in Osaka - Ruins/Manifest

Wait, what? Yes, I was finally able upload something so I can post again. Sadly, my current net connection is bad, so don't expect anything again in a while.

For now, though, I present you with two morsels from Winters In Osaka. I would love to tell you a lot about them, but, alas, I don't know much, other than it is a one person noise project. These two 'albums' are both on the one disc, but I have separated them, as each represents a slightly different aesthetic. Each is the result of a mail collaboration between WIO and a series of other individuals.

From their Last.FM page:
-harsh, needlestorm electronics subscribe more to the “scour the meninges off yr brain” variety of physical impact.

-Like a 3 am televangelist, Winters in Osaka have the pow-AH.

-thick whirring buzzscape

-noisy party with few friends around, and burly tinnitus

- be warned, this is some seriously noisy shit!

-Winter’s in Osaka leave on a pinnacle, almost orgasmic, point that you would have never thought possible.

For fans of Prurient & Wolf Eyes, as well as other experimental ambient/noise/avant-garde projects.

Maria Zerfall - Totenstille, Der Rest Ist Fluch

Christine Weyrether has been creating industrial and experimental sounds since 1985, releasing a bunch of cult and hard to find tapes and compilations. Lo-fi noise loops, guitars, and all kinds of other stuff combined with Christine's spoken word vocals over the top, this is experimental in every sense of the word. Cold and depressed and early heavy industrial inspired. While listening comparisons can be drawn to early Throbbing Gristle, SPK or Nurse With Wound.

Red Dons - Fake Meets Failure

Old school punk rock from the US - featuring members of The Observers and Born/Dead. Good tunes and good fun.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Blasphemophagher - The III Command Of The Absolute Chaos (2011)

More uncompromising and chaotic war metal from these maniac Italians. A total fukking onslaught from start to finish, play it loud and summon Satan.

Boonhorse - S/T

Boonhorse are a stoner rock/sludge/doom band from Canberra, Australia. Formerly of the band LOG, who I saw for the first time way back in 2003 at an awesome metal festival called Metal for the Brain, which was held in Canberra for 15 years although sadly no longer running. These guys know how to write some groovy riffs, and some songs even feature harmonica, so how can you go wrong?!

Monday, October 31, 2011

Vanyar - Returning To Woden's Stone (2011)

Epic black metal from the UK featuring members of Sump.

Mournful Congregation - The Book of Kings (2011)

Nothing should really need to be said about this. Well, its the new Mournful Congregation, who are of course one of the best funeral doom bands to ever exist and never deliver anything short of incredible.

New album from Danish neo-folk outfit :Of The Wand And The Moon:.

Noothgrush - Live for Nothing (2011)

Noothgrush are a sludge band, formed in 1994 who can be compared with bands such as Grief, Eyehategod and Dystopia. They have recently reformed and are playing Maryland Death Fest next year. This album contains two live radio broadcasts from the late 90s, and has been released by Southern Lord Records.

Locrian - The Clearing (2011)

New LP from experimental drone noise band Locrian.

Rome - Our Holy Rue/The Merchant Fleet (2011)

Upon listening to the new 2 song EP from Rome, one can immediately hear a distinct departure from their quite accessible neo-folk sound to something much more raw and industrial, reminiscent of early Death in June. That doesn't stay for long however, as the second track is similar to their more recent work, being nice and folky and making this a pretty varied and interesting EP.

Heresiarch - Obsecrating the Global Holocaust (2011)

Crushing blackened death metal from New Zealand. This is their demo that includes a fucking Bathory cover! You can pre-order their new EP being released on Dark Descent here.

Crooked Cross - Crooked Cross 7" (2011)

Noisy black metal punk madness from members of Cult Ritual, Horrid Cross, Death Cult Suicide, Neon Blud, Merchandise, Grinning Death's Head, etc.

Ruin Lust - Demo CDR (2011)

Black/death metal featuring a member of Fell Voices. Here is the CD-R rip of their demo. You can buy the cassette at Psychic Violence, which apparently sounds much better (although this still sounds good).

Pale Chalice - Afflicting The Dichotomy Of Trepid Creation (2011)

Very impressive début from this black metal horde from San Francisco.

Panoptical Mycosis & Luciation - Sessions From Lejre

No Pleasure in Life - Happiness Is Not An Option

Depressive black metal, like razors on skin. Desperate darkness, feelings of self-loathing and despair. An empty body and an empty life. Happiness is not an option.

Cülo - Life is Vile...And So Are We (2011)

I've posted some Cülo stuff before, and if you haven't taken notice of them then now is the time. This compilation has stuff from their EPs, plus I guess some other stuff or whatever, but just listen to it. Thrashing hardcore punk and party times. Straight-up fucking awesome.

Bastard Priest - Ghouls of the Endless Night (2011)

I'm posting some stuff that I have not yet had the chance to listen to, but here is the new Bastard Priest LP and I'm sure its going to be killer since their previous album was one of the best death metal releases from 2010. Taking cues from early Entombed, Dismember and Grave, these guys are one of the finest bands to come out of this new old school of death metal craze that has been going on in recent times and I can't wait to sink my teeth into this one.

Circle of Ouroborus - Eleven Fingers (2011)

New album from this prolific Finnish experimental black band.

Robert Turman - Way Down

Robert Turman was an original member of NON. His solo work is electronic / industrial and its really good. I think that anyone into Vatican Shadow would like this as the sound is quite similar (of course this came before - its a 1987 release).

Immolation - Providence (2011)

New Immolation EP! It rules, as expected. Delicious riffs.

Laibach - Opus Dei

My favourite Laibach album, featuring nationalistic sounding marching hymns. This, combined with the fact that the members are often pictured wearing German SS-style uniforms, one may think that the band may be nazi-sympathizers, but anyone writing them off as such is clearly missing the point. The songs here are clearly tongue-in-cheek, and are more of a social commentary than being "shocking".
Its quite amazing how the Queen song "One Vision" is transformed after changing the lyrics to German and adding a more driving beat behind it. Many of the songs work like this, being intelligent, satyrical as well as damn catchy! Opus Dei is a brilliantly clever and artful album, influencial and important in the development of numerous bands and genres.
